When public services use Ethereum, who remains responsible for identity?

The Ethereum Foundation’s public-infrastructure introduction places Bhutan’s digital identity system alongside a humanitarian proof of concept. Shared verification infrastructure does not replace institutional responsibility or personal-data governance.

The test of public infrastructure is not only connectivity. Responsibilities must remain workable when providers change, credentials need correction, or people need help recovering access.

Africa's crypto adoption: stablecoins and cross-border payments

Chainalysis estimates that Sub-Saharan Africa's crypto economy grew 13.4% between July 2025 and June 2026. South Africa and Nigeria together accounted for over three-quarters of regional activity.

The report highlights personal wallets, stablecoins and cross-border payments. Banking integration and regulation remain important. These findings concern onchain activity during the reporting period, not recent token prices.

Adoption does not end at onchain confirmation. If recipients still struggle to convert, withdraw or spend, a faster network may not improve their experience. End-to-end cost and repeat use are more revealing.

MENA crypto markets: licensing, conflict and connectivity

Chainalysis puts MENA's crypto economy at $443.3 billion for July 2025–June 2026, down 1.4%, while the UAE grew 32%, highlighting regional differences.

The report links shifts in Türkiye to its licensing transition and observes falling bitcoin transactions during Iranian internet shutdowns. This is period-specific activity research; regional totals do not directly measure payment adoption.

A flat regional total can conceal concentration in one market and contraction elsewhere. Separate countries, service types and connectivity conditions before treating different changes as one adoption story.

North American crypto adoption: AI micropayments and dollar stablecoins

Chainalysis examines AI-agent payments, stablecoins and tokenization in North America. It uses onchain activity to explore software purchasing data, computation and other services, and looks at x402 wallet replenishment and time to first payment to assess movement from one-off experiments toward recurring use.

The main regional reporting period runs from July 2025 through June 2026; some AI-payment analysis extends through September. This is research published in October, not live October market data. Geographic attribution and inferred wallet behavior do not capture every resident's complete activity.

Repeat funding is a persistence signal. Measuring agent-commerce value still requires completed tasks and actual costs.

Southeast Asian and Oceanian adoption: stablecoins and institutions

Chainalysis finds different areas of growth beneath an overall contraction in Central and Southeast Asia and Oceania. Its July 2025–June 2026 study describes expanding institutional participation in Singapore and Australia, alongside active smaller peer-to-peer transfers in the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Across the markets studied, cross-border stablecoin activity exceeded domestic activity. Interviewees connect usage with remittances, business payments and settlement. Their explanations should be distinguished from onchain measurements, and regional patterns do not establish that all residents use the same tools.

Regional volume describes scale; use cases and conversion conditions explain whether a payment process is usable. Neither substitutes for the other.
