Bithumb employee data breach remains under investigation
ABMedia reports that Bithumb detected abnormal access to its internal mobile office system on October 27 and notified South Korean authorities. The compromised DaouOffice collaboration system was used by staff. Confirmed leaked data involved employees of Bithumb, subsidiaries and contractors; whether member data was included still required examination of conversations and shared files.
Bithumb said the office system was physically separated from trading and customer-asset systems. At the time of the report, it had found no signs of abnormal access to customer assets. Authorities had begun an onsite investigation, while the number affected, data types and intrusion method remained unresolved. A confirmed employee-data leak does not by itself establish theft of customer assets.
Separating workplace and trading systems helps define direct exposure, but does not erase downstream data risks. Not yet confirmed is not a completed investigation.
